Otoplasty (Correction of protruding ears)
Otoplasty – Overly protruding ears often draws attention away from the face and can detract from overall facial harmony. Depending on the cause of the ear protrusion, a combination of sutures and cartilage weakening procedures are used to improve the appearance of the protruding ears restoring facial harmony. Because children with this problem are often affected by the comments of their peers, some parents elect to have their children undergo this procedure as early as 5 years of age. Although this may seem young, by age 5 the ear is approximately 85% of its adult size and it is just before the age when other children begin to notice differences. If you have been considering this then make an appointment for a consultation and Dr. Sanderson will carefully weigh the risks and benefits of the surgery with all those involved so that an informed decision can be made.
