The injectable filler called Sculptra if FDA approved for the treatment of shallow to deep nasolabial folds (smile line) and works well for adding volume to the face. The Sculptra Butt Lift has been touted recently by some large, chain medspas as a great option for augmenting the buttocks. It is performed by injecting Sculptra into the buttocks followed by a series radiofrequency treatments to lift the skin and supposedly improve cellulite. In theory, this allows one to increase gluteal size without having surgery. Please understand, if I felt this worked I would offer it. Sculptra comes as a powder and is then diluted with saline prior to injection. For the Sculptra buttock lift the Sculptra is usually reconstituted with fifteen milliliters (mls) per syringe and to illustrate how miniscule this is in the context of gluteal augmentation, when I transfer fat during a conservative gluteal augmentation I may transfer 200mls of fat PER butt cheek and 400mls per cheek with a more aggressive augmentation. Transferring 15mls or even 30mls per side with Sculptra to augment the buttocks is laughable and a waste of money.
