Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enlarge and reshape the breast using implants. Because women with smaller breasts often complain of having difficulty finding dresses and bathing suits that fit well, breast augmentation is often employed to help with this problem. Breast augmentation is one of the more commonly performed aesthetic surgeries today and the results can be dramatic.
If you are considering breast augmentation then you undoubtedly have many questions. Silicone versus saline implants? Where will the incision or implant be placed? Is breast augmentation safe? How big should I go? Regarding what type of implant to use, silicone or saline, many factors need to be considered. Complications can occur with any surgery, but both types of implants are safe and approved by the FDA. The implants can be placed either under the chest muscle or above the chest muscle and through multiple incisions including inframmary (in the crease below the breast), peri-areolar (around the nipple) or transaxillary (under the armpit). These questions are not uncommon and during your initial consultation Dr. Sanderson will carefully answer each question and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each option.
